These flirty earrings are feather light in your ears, and light on the planet too.

I have named this pair “Port”, as in Harbour, that dramatic place where sea meets coast.

Description

These earrings feature a 3/4" circle in either matte black or pebbled grey leather. A polished copper ring holds a dangle composed of a matte black house shape, from which hangs a rectangle of vegetable tanned leather fringe in a peachy tan.

Black top: the black house is 1.5 inches tall and 1.25 inches wide. The fringe is 1.25 inches wide and just under an inch tall.

Grey top: the black house is just over 1.25 inches tall and 1.25 inches wide. The fringe is almost 1.5 inches wide and just under 1.25 inches tall.

The Tellurian Collection

The Port earrings are part of the Tellurian collection. Tellurian means “dweller on the earth” or “of, relating to, or characteristic of the earth.” Each piece is named for an element of the universe. My hope is they evoke a sense of belonging to the place we find ourselves, and a reminder that we are a part of nature.

How They were Made

The Port earrings are made of recycled leather, which has been cut, trimmed and buffed with a conservation and restoration grade wax that resists dirt and stains, and scrap solid copper electrical wire that has been stripped, cleaned, shaped and polished by hand with the same wax in order to preserve the rose gold tone. The leather shapes are then joined either by the copper jump rings or by adhesive to one another. Solid sterling silver posts adhere sturdily and come with sterling silver butterfly cap backings.

Each pair is made with my two hands in my studio on the traditional territory of the Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ and Omàmìwininìwag (Algonquin).

Care

Please avoid handling the earrings with dirty or wet fingers. Do not get wet, lay flat to store. In time, the copper jump rings will develop a darker patina that can be brightened with a quick buff of a polishing cloth.

Shipping

Your earrings ship for free in minimalist, environmentally friendly packaging and will be mailed within one to two business days of receiving your order. As they are essentially one of a kind and irreplaceable, they will be shipped to you with tracking and include insurance coverage in the case of loss or damage on route, at no extra cost to you.

A note about my descriptions of the vegetable tanned leather (the blush/nude/pink)

Blush and nude are very euro-centric terms that imply white skin as standard. I have tried my best to find alternative descriptions that still convey the precise colour of the pieces so you can feel comfortable choosing the perfect pair for you!
