HOW WE MAKE THEM

We divert scrap electrical wiring from the landfill with the help of an electrician friend. We strip off the plastic coating and clean the copper using vinegar, water and salt. We then bend and hammer the wire into shape, and use steel letter stamps that are 2mm/ 5/64” tall to customize the flattened portion with the plant names you provide. The bottom tip of each plant tag is sharpened to a point so you can easily poke it into the soil of your plant pot. Last but not least, we finish it with a coating of beeswax to resist water.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Our plant tags can be easily cleaned with a wipe of olive oil or beeswax on a rag at the end of one season, or the beginning of another. If they've gotten really dirty, simply clean them using the recipe below!

EASY CLEANING RECIPE

Ingredients:

1 Pot large enough to allow the plant tags to lay flat in its bottom

1 cup water

1/4 cup of vinegar

1 tablespoon salt

1 teaspoon of wax or oil for finishing - can be beeswax, cutting board wax, food grade oil - you anything that will resist help seal the copper to resist oxidation.

Instructions:

Combine the water, vinegar and salt in your pot. Bring to a boil, then submerge your plant labels. As soon as they look shiny (this will take about a minute), pull them out with tongs (careful, they’ll be hot!), rinse them off with water, and wipe dry. Finish them by wiping them with the wax or oil.
